CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WWAY)– Carolina Beach leaders met Tuesday to talk about a number of issues including the announcement of a new Town Manager.
Carolina Beach Town Council was scheduled to make an announcement and introduce the new Town Manager Tuesday, but that announcement has been postponed.
Bruce Shell has served as Interim Town Manager since January. He previously worked as the New Hanover County Manager.
Tuesday was Shell’s last official day on the job. Ed Parvin will now serves on a temporary basis until a replacement is named.
“At this point we are not making any announcement on who it is or who it isn’t. I’m not going to confirm or deny anybody. We have someone selected and that’s where we are at,” said Steve Shuttleworth, Mayor Pro Tem.
Council members say they have a candidate who is committed to serving as Town Manager, but that person has previous obligations that they must complete before formally accepting the new position.
Another hot button issue on the agenda was the restructuring of the Carolina Beach Police Department.
Town leaders say a final decision on the future of Carolina Beach Police Sergeant Chris Chafin is still unclear until the appeal process is completed.
The town won’t discus any details, but Chafin was on leave after crashing a town car.
Council approved a new Police Standard Operating Procedure Manual for the Carolina Beach Police Department. The manual was rewritten by retiring Chief Kurt Bartley. The manual hadn’t been updated since 1986.
Council also addressed the issues at Freeman Park. Members are reviewing current policies to help with camping and the amount of people that visit the park each year.
They hope to add more trash cans as well as fire pits in the near future.
